My ex wife used to do something similar to tampo. Well it wasnt quite the same. She used to just go to the mall and empty out the checking account. I will take tampo over that any day.
Chaychay made me do it.

I have hear that experiencing true tampo is like getting and arm cut off or eye poked out.  It is one thing to hear about it and another to have it done to you  :o X 1,000

if a filipina girl is not getting the love that she want she will try to make it even by witdrawing or backing off a little, she will try not to complain but instead she will shut her mouth afraid that she might say something you both will not going to like.. if you think tampo is not fair, try to think of it that girls feel that way when they thought you were also not being fair her. tampo can sometimes just be a tantrums but can also be a serious thing.
today is where your book begin but the rest is still unwritten :)

Usually when someone does their little tantrums on me,  I joke and tease to try to bring them out of the pettiness.  If that doesn't work, or they don't want to discuss their issue or misunderstanding to try to resolve it, then I'll just leave them alone.  I won't hang around and watch someone play the martyr.  It doesn't sway me.

That is a something I think a lot of us would like to know more about. I have heard of those terms before, but I am a little shaky on their definitions. What do they mean, and what are the differences between them? (there was a great thread on the old site about this, but it was lost)

     - lambing
     - tampo
     - malambing
     - matampohin

     - lambing
     - tampo
     - malambing
     - matampohin

..HERE'S THE DIFFERENCE:

Active Verb: maglambing
English Definition: (verb) to caress; to show fondness, affection, tenderness
Examples: Maglambing ka naman ng konti sa iyong kasintahan. (You should try to show some affection to your
sweetheart.)

tampo, magtampo: Word: tampo
Active Verb: magtampo
English Definition: (verb) to sulk
....i hope that helps u understand the terms..... :)

eper, the definitions you supplied are excellent! :) With those definitions, it is easier to make a distinction between the base words and their derivatives.

Adding prefix ma- to "lambing" (or in the case of "tampo", adding prefix ma- and suffix -hin) adds another dimension of meaning. The new words now serve to mean as a state of quality or being. Thus, a person who is inclined to be demonstrative or lavish in his/her show of fondness and affection is said to be "malambing" while someone who is given to or marked by frequent sulking behavior is said to be "matampuhin". (NOTE: In Filipino, -o as ending or as last syllable vowel in most base words usually becomes -u when followed by a suffix (e.g. upo - upuan,  putong - pinutungan). A word formation oddity indeed!)

The wisest men follow their own direction. (Euripides)

There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness. (Friedrich Nietzsche)

Words ought to be a little wild for they are the assaults of thought on the unthinking. (John Maynard Keynes)

Eper and Medea, thank you for the clarification. Excellent!!!

I don't think Filipinos realize how difficult the base words can be for us sometimes. I am still trying to understand the concept, hahaha  ;D ;D ;D
