cellular internet service in Philippines.
« on: February 07, 2010, 01:38:46 PM »
First thing I have to say is it sure seems cheap there compared to what it costs here.

Sun does the 50p unlimited per day with different load packages. This comes to about $1USD per day for unlimited for 24hrs. The USB stick costs 888p for the unit.

Globe has 160hrs/month for 1499p but no screwing around getting load every day. Anyone try to use up 160hrs of internet a month?

Either way it seems to be about the same price ~ $30usd a month (which is half what this would cost in the US).

I am going to be getting one of these services for chay when I get there. I guess at this point for her it will all come down to system coverage. I think they both cover but one not as well.
Chaychay made me do it.

I tried prepaid internet but since I spend too much time in the internet, I find it expensive like P10 per 30 minutes . So I applied for unlimited broadband which is SUN P799/month unlimited internet, good connection up to 2MBPS, tho I'm not sure if Sun has a good connection in other areas in Philippines.

Smart and Sun topnotch when it comes to cellular internet services. Please don't mind Globe, as it sucks all the time, been reading so much negative feedbacks about it, or most probably there are areas in which globe really works well.

Well 10p/30min for the sun is the most expensive. The unlimited sounds like a pretty good deal but I dont think they would let me sign up for that and im not really sure what chays means are to do this. This kinda keeps me limited to the prepaid plans.

They have unlimited daily for about a dollar a day on the days you choose to use it for the prepaid users and about twenty a month for unlimited if you are able to qualify for contract service.

Well 10p/30min for the sun is the most expensive.

That is the rate for most internet cafe, and also the Globe 3g that plugs into your computer USB 20p per hour. We rarely were able to keep a connection with the Globe 3g always dropping the connection very maddening. My Girlfriend now has a permanent connection in her appartment cost 890php a month unlimited internet access Viantel out of Legazpi City. Works pretty good

Welcome back Bicol Martin. I thought you are already married!!
Some men see things as they are and ask why, I dream of things that never were and say why not.

For a woman who has so much to say, silence is deafening!!!!

Glades and I have been together 2-1/2 years (I am waiting for when we can be together foreever in the Philippines) we use Skype almost everyday. It has a lot better video connection than Yahoo. The other cool thing you can do with Skype is that you can share all or a portion of your computer screen. We watch movies together me in the USA and her in the Philippines pretty cool. Or for those times you are trying to explain how to fix or go somewhere on the computer you can show her on your screen.
